Road Trip!

I was feeling adventurous today so I decided to go on a road trip.Asbury01_2  It was the warmest day we've had so far this year, so I wanted to drive somewhere south where hopefully it would be even warmer.  So I called up some of my friends and we just headed out.  We really had no clue where we were going to go at first, but my friend Heather came up with the idea of going to some sea-side town called Asbury Park.  One hundred and twenty-nine miles later we arrived at our destination. I was pretty surprised.  I was expecting a tourist spot like Wildwood or Ocean City only a little smaller.  It was nothing but an empty boardwalk, the occasional homeless person and a bunch of decaying buildings.  It was pretty cool because you can tell that back in the early 1900's it was probably the place to be in New Jersey.  There is an old casino that is all boarded up, a carousel, and the remains of a long string of shops along the boardwalk.

We walked around for a while and took some pictures but you can only stay there for so long before Asbury03_3you get bored so we decided to go find something else to do.  Our next stop was White Castle.  There was a crazy lady sitting a few seats behind us that got up and started walking toward my brother with a newspaper.  She hands him the paper and starts rambling on about rockets.  We all just sat there shocked, and then she got really excited and yelled "Projectile rocket invulnerability... That's GREAT!  Keeping you boys from dying!"  The whole restaurant got quit and she just walked away and sat back down.  It was so incredibly strange.  I was trying so hard not to laugh but I couldn't help it.

After that incident, we started to analyze the menu's and advertisements hanging on the walls.Whitecastle_5  My brother pointed out that they are probably targeting stoners with their marketing.  Everywhere you look you see the word "craving".  They are open 24 hours and suggest that you come down and buy their case of 30 cooked burgers for the "perfect midnight snack."  How often do you have the desire to sit and eat 30 burgers at midnight?

Newjerseytrip_9After we left White Castle we stopped at the 4-story Palisades Center Mall, then got lost driving home, twice.  We had go to back a different way so we got confused and made a wrong turn, ending up 25 miles out of the way.  When we finally realized we were headed to Albany, NY and not back to CT we pulled over and got directions back to where we wanted to be.  The guy that gave us the directions was dead wrong, so we ended up getting lost again.  Fortunately I figured it out, and we made our way back to CT.  It was a fun day.  I highly recommend spontaneous road trips.
